Most people knit tighter in patterns than they do when knitting solid color stocking stitch. That's why I've included in the pattern that you should go up half a needle size when knitting patterns. Knitting tension varies from person to person so always knit a sample before you start.

This sweater is perfect for using up leftover yarn. You can also use the same color in several places to create a version with fewer colors. For example, you can use the same color for the base color and pattern color 3. You can also use the same color for pattern colors 1 and 6 or 2 and 5 if you want a variant with few colors.
