COMPLETE PULLOVER WITH USED SLEEVE - STEP BY STEP

Finish sweaters with embroidered sleeves - step by step

Cutting the sweater and inserting the sleeve has the undeserved bad reputation of being extremely difficult. To dispel this rumor, I have created the following instructions. It's not difficult, it's just monotonous. I still want to point out that there are many different methods of tightening the sleeves - but this is how I do it 🙂

(Photo: Åste and her friend on a hike in the Pasviktal with Norwegian forest sweaters from Álafosslopi. They used sleeves for the first time and got it sooo good !!)

What do you need:

The circular needle

Wool needle with blunt tip

something leftover yarn

Mesh marker

Sewing machine (If you have never used a sewing machine before, practice on newsprint. New sewing machines are very easy to handle and you really only have to learn, just pull them forward and press the backspace key for a few seconds.)

Step 1

When you have finished knitting the sleeves and the front and back, sew the threads. (The sleeves must be chained. And think of it as easy to chain! Use a larger needle strength to chain. The front and back part will not be chained.) If I chained the sleeves, let me hang 1 meter of yarn, this thread use for sewing the evidence.

Step 2

Lay the front and back piece on two long circular needles (see photo) and chain 3 sts on each side of the front and back. This is how you get on better with the sewing machine. Mark with two mask markers the desired neckline. Measure the width of the sleeve and mark where the arm cut should be and where you want to sew, with some leftover yarn. Close to this marking around (see photo). I usually sew two or three times over it and use a straight edge. Many prefer zigzag stitches. I tried both and did not notice any difference. I use straighteners because I feel like I have more control when sewing.

Step 3

Now turn the front and back part to the left and connect the shoulders. To do this, chain as usual, only that you not only stitch in 1 stitch, but in 2 stitches (each stitch of each needle). End at the neckline.

Cut the work between the two machine seams and sew the sleeves. I usually sew them by hand. Use stitch markers so that the sleeve stitches are evenly distributed on the armhole.

Take wool yarn for sewing. Knitted is longer in width than in height, so you have to occasionally pick up two transverse threads on front and back instead of just one. As a donkey bridge can apply: For every 3rd stitch in the sleeve, two cross threads are included in the arm section. But that varies from piece to piece, as everyone knits differently. This is why the use of mask markers is so important, so you have a good idea of whether you only need to pick up one or two cross threads.

Step 4

Sew a round of the handle with the sewing machine, so you can be sure that it will hold. Then sew the lining over the cutting edges.

Step 5

Now knit the neckline. When knitting the stitches from each shoulder, grind 1 stitch so that no hole remains. 🙂

Congratulations! You're done! Put the sweater in cold water and let it dry lying down.
