10 cm stockinette stitch on needle 3 mm= 28 stitches
10 cm stranded knitting on needle 3.5 mm= 28 stitches

(The needlesize is only a guideline. If you get a gauge with more than the provided stitches you should switch to a bigger needle size. If you get a gauge with less than the provided stitches you should switch to a smaller needle size. It is smart to always make a swatch to check the gauge before starting on the garment, as everyone knits differently, and if you choose an alternative yarn it might behave differently).

Below I have made a list with yarns you can use to knit Baby-Hopi. If you have a small baby, I would recommend that you use a merino yarn, but if you have a baby who has started to explore outside, you can choose a more sturdy yarn, such as Lamb wool from Rauma Yarns or Thin Peer Gynt from Sandnes Yarns (you can knit the neck in merino wool so it doesn’t itch). If you are going to knit Hopi baby for summer, you can choose a cotton yarn.

Yarn made of 100% merino wool: Sunday from Sandnes yarn (100% merino), Merino from Knitting for Olive (100% merino), Gepard all day organic (100% merino), Light Merino from Untold (100% merino), Alpaca picasso tweed from Viking yarn (Alpaca 30%, Merino 30%, Donegal 20%, Nylon 20%).

Yarn made of 100% wool: Pure eco baby wool from Dale Yarns (100% wool), Filcolana Saga (100% lamb wool from New Zealand), Lamb wool from Rauma Yarns (100% Norwegian wool), Thin Peer Gynt (100% Norwegian wool).

Yarn with Cotton: Lille lerke from Dale Yarns (merino wool and cotton), Cotton Merino from Knitting for Olive (merino and cotton), Bambino from Viking yarns (50% bamboo and 50% cotton), Mandarin Petit from Sandnes Yarns (100% cotton), Thin Line from Sandnes Yarns (53% cotton, 33% viscose and 14% linen).
