10 cm stockinette stitch, solid color, 4.5 mm needles = 18 stitches
10 cm colorwork, 5 mm needles = 18 stitches
Most knitters knit tighter when doing colorwork than when knitting solid stockinette stitch. I have therefore included in the pattern that you should go up half a needle size when knitting colorwork. Gauge varies from person to person, so always knit a swatch before you begin.

This sweater is perfect for using up leftover yarn. You can also use the same color in several places to create a version with fewer colors. For example, you can use the same color for the main color and pattern color 3. You can also use the same color for pattern colors 1 and 6 or 2 and 5 if you want a version with fewer colors.
