Matoaka Polar Yoke (digital pattern)

Matoaka Polar Yoke (digital pattern). This is a 2-in-1 pattern with a high and low neck version, as well as a polar hood version. The Matoaka pattern was first published in my first book, Wilderness Sweaters from 2019.

Now I've created a thick version with a round yoke for colder days. The sweater is knitted in Troll or Blåne, but you can easily use other yarns like Alafosslopi if you want a water-resistant sweater.

Many have requested yarn alternatives for everyday use, so I have included these in the pattern.

The sweater is knitted in the round, from the bottom up. The body and sleeves are knitted separately before being joined on one needle when the yoke is to be knitted. Matoaka Polar is a thick and cozy sweater that can be knitted as a sweater with a low or high neck, or as a polar hood version. The Matoaka Polar Hood has a hood and extra length on the body so you are dressed for extra cold days. Matoaka Polar should have a positive ease of between 10-15 cm. Measure around your chest and add 10-15 cm to the garment's bust circumference to find your size. Enjoy your knitting!

(The stated needle size is only a guide. If you get more stitches than stated for 10 cm, go up one needle size. If you get fewer stitches than stated for 10 cm, go down one needle size).

NB! It is easy to knit tighter on the yoke with three colors and long floats. Therefore, I have included in the pattern that you should switch to needle 7 (7.5) 7 (7.5) 7 (7.5) mm when knitting the pattern to maintain a gauge of 14 (13) 14 (13) 14 (13) stitches per 10 cm. Everyone knits differently, so it is important that you check your gauge for both colorwork and plain stockinette stitch.

Yarn: Troll and/or Blåne from Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk. The sweater can also be knitted in Alafosslopi. Alafosslopi is a thicker yarn than Troll and Blåne, so you can go down half a needle size from what is stated. Alafosslopi also has a somewhat shorter yardage.

Yarn Quantity: For the polar hood version (with hood and extra length), calculate approximately 150 grams extra of the main color.
