Gauge
10 cm stockinette stitch with one color on 3.5 mm needles = 22 stitches
10 cm colorwork on 4 mm needles = 22 stitches
Most people knit tighter when doing colorwork than when doing plain stockinette. I have therefore included in the pattern that you should go up half a needle size when knitting colorwork. Gauge varies from person to person, so always knit a swatch before you begin.
