10 cm (4 inches) stockinette stitch on 6 mm (US 10) needles = 14 stitches
10 cm (4 inches) colorwork on 7 mm (US 10.75) needles = 14 stitches

Always check your gauge! Most people knit tighter on colorwork than when knitting plain stockinette. I have therefore included in the pattern that you should go up a needle size when knitting colorwork.
