10 cm stockinette stitch on 4.5 mm needles = 18 stitches
10 cm stranded colorwork on 5 mm needles = 18 stitches
Most knitters knit tighter when working stranded colorwork than they do when working stockinette stitch. I have therefore included in the pattern that you should go up half a needle size when knitting stranded colorwork. Gauge varies from person to person, so always knit a swatch before you begin.

This sweater is perfect for using up leftover yarn. You can also use the same colour in several places to create a version with fewer colours. For example, you can use the same colour for the main colour and pattern colour 3. You can also use the same colour for pattern colour 1 and 6 or 2 and 5 if you want a version with few colours.
