10 cm stockinette stitch with a single color on needle 4 (4.5) 5 (4) 4.5 (5) mm = 19 (18) 17 (19) 18 (17) stitches
10 cm colorwork on needle 4.5 (5) 5.5 (4.5) 5 (5.5) mm = 19 (18) 17 (19) 18 (17) stitches

Most people knit tighter with colorwork than when knitting single-color stockinette. I have therefore included in the pattern that you should go up half a needle size when knitting colorwork. Gauge varies from person to person, so always knit a swatch before you begin.
