How to knit the Link Cable

How to knit the Linkapleddet blanket

I'm now going to provide a description for you on how to knit the Linkapleddet blanket from my book "Wilderness Interior." The same method applies to the Tipipleddet blanket, Villmarkspleddet blanket, and all the tapestries in the book. You can find the book HERE.

Hvordan strikke Linkapleddet

You can knit the Linkapleddet blanket in as many or as few colors as you wish. It's also a great way to use up some leftover yarn.

Things you need to knit this blanket

  • Yarn. The blanket can be knitted in any yarn you desire. Some suggestions are Troll, Blåne, Alafosslopi, Drops Snow, Drops Andes.
  • Knitting needles. 6 mm and 7 mm, 80 cm long (or whatever gives you the specified gauge of 12 stitches per 10 cm).
  • Wool needle for weaving in ends.
  • Sewing machine and thread. If you don't have a sewing machine, you can ask someone you know. You only need very basic sewing skills as you will only be sewing two seams back and forth.
  • Optionally, a thin fabric if you wish to sew this onto the back of the blanket (I will not be covering how to sew this on in this blog post).

Gauge

The first thing you should do is knit a swatch to ensure you get the correct gauge, which is 12 stitches per 10 cm. Since this is a blanket and not something to be worn on the body, the gauge is not critical for a good result, but you could end up with a very large or small blanket if you don't get the correct gauge.

Garter Stitch Edge

Cast on stitches and knit back and forth in garter stitch until you have reached the specified length.

Steek Edge

When you have finished knitting the garter stitch edge, cast on stitches for the steek edge as shown in the picture. I usually knit the first stitch on the next round before knitting over all stitches on the 7 mm needle.

You can knit the steek edge in either knit or purl stitch. The most important thing is that you know where the steek stitches are.

Then knit Charts A, B, C, and D.

When you have finished knitting the charts, bind off the steek stitches and knit over the stitches on the 6 mm needle in the border color. Knit the garter stitch edge to the specified length.

When you have finished the garter stitch edge and bound off the stitches, weave in the ends. I pull the threads along the steek edge into the steek edge so I don't have to weave them in.

Feste tråder

Now it's time to get out the sewing machine 😀 Sew two seams along the steek edge. Then trim the threads and cut between the seams.

When you are finished cutting open, you will pick up stitches along the blanket. Pick up stitches as shown in the picture. When you have finished picking up stitches, thread a piece of yarn through all the stitches.

Knit the garter stitch edge and bind off. I like to bind off with a larger needle size or with an elastic bind-off.

Strikk rillekant

When you have finished the garter stitch edge of the Linkapleddet blanket, you will pick up stitches for the facing that you will sew over the raw edge. You will now transfer the stitches you put on a thread onto a needle.

Then knit in stockinette stitch and sew the facing over the raw edge.

Sy belegg over sårkant

When you have finished knitting the garter stitch edge and facing on both sides of the blanket, it's time to make fringes.

Finish by rinsing the blanket and letting it dry flat. Congratulations – you have now finished knitting your blanket! ❤️
